John Elton — Candle In The Wind

Right. This is slightly altered from a tab I found somewhere. When I tried to
play it, a few notes didn't sound too good, so I altered some and it sounds a bit
better. Sorry it's only chorus, I'm still figuring out the verses. Go easy-first tab attempt!

   before your legend ever will.

Loveliness we've lost; these empty days without your smile.
This torch we'll always carry for our nation's golden child.
And even though we try, the truth brings us to tears;
all our words cannot express the joy you brought us through the years.

Goodbye England's rose, from a country lost without your soul,
who'll miss the wings of your compassion more than you'll ever know.

Tribute to Princess Diana
Please note: This version does not necessarily reflect the key Elton John
uses in his interpretation of his song.
(A capo should be used to match the key which bests enables you and yours to
sing Candle in the Wind)

G C
Goodbye England's rose, may you ever grow in our hearts
C G C
You were the grace that placed itself where lives were torn apart
		      G C
You called out to our country, and you whispered to those in pain.
                     G C
Now you belong to heaven, and the stars spell out your name.

Chorus:
D D7
And it seems to me you lived your life
        G C
Like a candle in the wind
      G D
Never fading with the sunset when the rain set in
	 C Em
And your footsteps will always fall here along England's greenest hills
G D C
Your candles burned out long before your legend ever will.

Verse no. 2:
G C
Loveliness we've lost, these empty days without your smile
                        G C
This torch we'll always carry for our nation's golden child
                   G C

All our words cannot express the joy you brought us through the years.

Chorus:
D D7
And it seems to me you lived your life
	 G C
Like a candle in the wind
      G D

	 C Em
And your footsteps will always fall here along England's greenest hills
G D C G
Your candles burned out long before your legend ever will.

You were the grace that placed itself where lives were torn apart
G C
Goodbye England's rose, from a country lost without your soul
                              G C
Who'll miss the wings of your compassion more than you'll ever know.

Chorus:
D D7
And it seems to me you lived your life
	 G C
Like a candle in the wind

Candle in the wind - Elton John

E A
Goodbye Norma Jean, though I never knew you at all
		         E A
You had the grace to hold yourself while those around you crawled
			 E A
They crawled out of the woodwork and they whispered into your brain
			E A
They sent you on a treadmill and they made you change your name

Chorus :

B B7
And it seems to me you lived your life
	E A
Like a candle in the wind
	E B
Never knowing who to cling to when the rain set in
	    A C#m
And I would have liked to've known you but I was just a kid
                         B A E
Your candle burned out long before your legend ever did

Other verses:

Loneliness was tough, the toughest role you ever played
Hollywood created a superstar and pain was the price you paid
And even when you died, oh, the press still hounded you
All the papers had to say was that Marilyn was found in the nude

Goodbye Norma Jean, though I never knew you at all
You had the grace to hold yourself while those around you crawled
Goodbye Norma Jean, from a young man in the twenty second row
Who sees you as something more than sexual, more than just our Marilyn Monroe

Terence
